Leesa Barr Makeup

Not too long ago, I received a lovely package from Leesa Barr – now if you don’t know or never heard of her before, you really need to get with the times! Leesa has cleverly created her collection surrounding the idea that makeup doesn’t have to be bad for your skin. As an advocate of high quality and healing ingredients, Leesa has truly shaped her brand to shine among all the others and today, I’ll be reviewing her products that were generously sent to me. Leesa has also set up a code beautybyvee for 10% off your entire order! And before we jump into the review, I also created a look using Leesa’s products which you can check out here. Mesmereyes Long Wear Mascara The one thing that caught my attention about this mascara is the shape and the uniqueness of the brush. When I first used the Mesmereyes Mascara, I had just removed my eyelash extensions – well, they fell off more like it. My eyes were bare and I felt naked! I missed having long and thick lashes so badly so I thought I’d give this a whirl. This wonder brush mascara worked like magic! It coated my individual lashes so nicely with no clumps (which is the WORST when it happens right?). I was mesmerised (like what I did there?). No clumps, no smudges and lasted all day. Want to know something even better? This mascara is formulated with Vitamin A, C and E. Vitamin A – helps produce healthy sebum to coat and protect the lashes Vitamin C – strengthens lashes Vitamin E – helps repair and rebuild lashes Pretty amazing right? You can shop the Mesmereyes Long Wear Mascara here. Luxe Lip Brush First of all, props to Leesa for making this beautiful brush rose gold! It’s absolutely perfect in every single way. Secondly, I’m not usually someone who uses a lip liner to apply lipstick. However, Leesa added in her note for me that she highly recommends using the Luxe Lip Brush when applying the lipstick and boy was she right. Applying red lipstick is tricky for everyone, no matter how long you’ve been using makeup. The lip brush is the perfect tool when applying lipstick due to it’s shape and flexibility to reach the corners of the mouth without smudging it. It gives me clean and crisp lines which is exactly what I…

The Year That Was – 5 Things I Achieved in 2017

I cannot believe I’m actually writing this blog post right now! Is 2017 really coming to an end? Is there seriously only half a month left till we start 2018? The year has honestly flown by and I’m here to capture a glimpse of the year that was through my eyes. 2017 was a big year for me – it was an emotional roller-coaster but I’m glad to say that I enjoyed the ride.  I learnt a shit load of things, took on new challenges and put myself in uncomfortable situations to break my barrier. 1. I was made redundant After exactly 1 year of working as a customer service/marketing assistant for a health and beauty company, I was made redundant. 100% of people who heard the news said ‘at least you got paid out’ which is a win in my books. My situation in this case was considered lucky. I knew the news was coming so I immediately updated my resume, spoke to my manager to be my point of reference and pushed my CV out into the world of seek.com.au, pedestrian.tv and LinkedIn. I landed a 7 week contract as an EDM specialist which was to start the week after I was made redundant – lucky right? Everything happened extremely quick and I knew this contract (a temporary replacement for someone who would be going away) would look awesome on my resume. 7 weeks isn’t a long time, I absorbed absolutely everything I could from this company so I could be prepared when I moved onto my next job. As soon as I finished up my contract, I moved onto another at the beginning of September – I had about a week off before I started a new contract. The contract that I found (am currently in) is a 12 month maternity leave contract as a marketing assistant. Being made redundant is a blessing in disguise, it taught me to keep going no matter what. If the old me was made redundant, I would probably take a few weeks off and slowly look for something new however the new me is wiser. Looking for jobs is never easy and I’ll gladly admit that I was extremely lucky to find jobs almost instantly and the one I’m in now, is 20 minutes from home! Cheering! 2. I became more serious about blogging Blogging has always been a creative outlet…

How to Conduct a Life Audit

It’s that time of year again where I start to take into consideration all the things that I’ve achieved this year and all the things I didn’t get a chance to do. I do a mental life audit so I can prepare myself for next year. A life audit is something I think everyone should do. No matter who we are, where we live and what we do, we always seem to be extremely busy people. We never really get the chance to just sit down and think about the year as a whole and start setting goals or lists for ourselves. We all feel broken sometimes, exhausted to the point of giving up. A life audit allows you to rest when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Here are my ways of conducting a life audit – you should too! Clean your room Your bedroom is your sanctuary. A place to rest and feel at peace. As cluttered as my room may be, I try my best to clean it regularly because a messy bedroom definitely interferes with my stress. When my makeup is all over my desk (which happens often) I feel like my brain is also all over the place. Once my space is clean, I’m able to breathe and relax. Kick some goals Mentally. If you’re like me, you probably have a huge list of ‘to-dos’ in your mind but you never get the chance to start or finish. When conducting a life audit, you should sit down and write a list of things that you wanted to do but never got around to it. Add it to your top priority for the coming year. Don’t feel pressured to write a hundred things. In fact, I’d rather you write 1 goal for next year and kick it’s ass! It’s always better to fully achieve that 1 goal rather than half-ass 100 goals. Get me? Time management I think every single human being on this planet has an issue with time management. Whether it’s work, school, social or family, we all seem to want more time to do things. But let’s be real, we only have 24 hours in a day. How many of those hours are spent sleeping? How many hours are spent bingeing on Netflix (I’m afraid to even calculate)? How many hours are spent with your loved ones? I think we all need to take a huge…

Foundation Friday – Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation

Happy Friday beauties *clink*! We’ve made it to Friday yet again and that means a new Foundation Friday post for you all! In my last post (which was a whileeee back), I spoke about the high end Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able Full Coverage Foundation (check it out!). This week, I’ve decided to go drugstore and introduce to you guys, the Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation. If you don’t know about it, you will now! Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation Promises: Sponge filters the liquid formula to smooth and even skin for a naturally luminous look Pure liquid pigments deliver perfect coverage SPF 40 protection Packaging and Price I purchased the Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation from Priceline during their 40% off cosmetics sale (yassss) for $16.17 – it retails for $26.95. The price point is extremely affordable, especially with a hefty 40% discount – so no issues there. I’ve never used a cushion foundation before and had been recommended this by a lot of beauty bloggers (The Life of Laura & The Beauty and the Geek AU especially).I had heard of the cushion concept a while back so all the anticipation had built up to this point – I was expecting quite a lot because of all the great reviews. The packaging of this foundation was compact, travel-friendly and super cute. The round hard plastic felt secure and firm which is always a plus! The foundation also includes a small mirror (which I’ll probably never use) but it’s always good to have. Inside includes the Maybelline flat foundation sponge with a strap where you can secure your fingers when applying, a plastic piece that separates the applicator sponge and the actual foundation absorbed in the cushion sponge – the picture will make a lot more sense than my horrible description. Overall, packaging and pricing is great and I have no complaints at all. Application Remember those old school eyeshadow palettes that had those tiny black sponged applicators? The ones no one used and they just sat there collecting dust. I was hoping that the Dream Cushion sponge applicator is far from those useless things. When I first used the sponge, I thought my fingers were a bit big to fit three fingers but felt too loose for two…is it just me? Applying the foundation itself was truly like a dream. The pigment was amazing, the coverage was medium-full and buildable. I knew from the…

My Full Face Holy Grail Products

I feel like my mission in this crazy beauty world is to find holy grail products that will never let me down in emergency situations – like crying my eyes out but my mascara is still holding on strong (winning!). I wanted to reveal my full face holy grail products with you all – from the prepping of skincare, my makeup base, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, lips, contour, blush – you get the drift. These are all products that I have used for a really long time and the formula has not failed me and I hope they work for you just as well as they have for me! Please keep in mind that just because we have the same skin type (combination), doesn’t mean that the products will work the same – there are about a hundred other factors we need to consider as to why or why not a product will work for you. Skincare Starting off with the most important step in makeup – skincare. The way you look after your skin is so important and can be the make or break of your makeup application. I’m usually very basic when it comes to skincare however, since learning that skincare has a lot to do with how my makeup looks, I’ve started to put in more effort. The following are my day time and night time skincare products that have changed the quality of my skin for the better. Exfoliator: Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant This isn’t your typical exfoliate – it is a specially formulated rice-based enzyme powder. When in contact with water, it releases Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes which are key ingredients to help smooth the skin and accelerate cell renewal. I’ve been using this non stop for about 3 months now – it was life changing for me, especially during the course of winter – my skin freaks out during the cold season and goes all out of whack. Read my full review on the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant here.  Moisturisers: Neutrogena Hyro Boost Serum (Night time), Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel SPF 15 (Day time) Neutrogena  launched their latest Hydro Boost collection which included 8 amazing products that were like nothing else they had formulated before. The quality and packaging was top notch and comparable to high end brands. I purchased some products that I felt would benefit my skin. The Hydro Boost Serum and Water Gel are…

Foundation Friday – Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation

Disclaimer: This post may contain affiliate links for which I receive commission at no extra cost to you. This allows me to continue my blogging passion as a freelance writer. If there’s anything I love more than food and sleep, it’s makeup but you probably already knew that. What you don’t know is that I have an obsession with trying out new foundation. I feel I need to try each and every single foundation that exists! So I decided to start a Foundation Friday series – each Friday, I’ll feature a foundation (old or new) that I’ve been trialling. I’ll give my (honest) opinion and pros and cons on everything you should look for when buying a new foundation. I hope you enjoy the series because I will definitely enjoy writing it! First up is the much acclaimed Marc Jacobs Beauty Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation. Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation Promises: Lasts up to 24 hours Flawless and full coverage Oil free base Completely covers pores, blemishes and other imperfections with the thinnest possible layer Blends effortlessly Packaging & Price So let’s jump right into it guys! I purchased the Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation from Sephora Australia for $79 in the shade 52 Honey Light – I used Sephora’s ‘Find Your Shade’ that allowed me to choose a foundation colour from another brand that I already own in order to match with Honey Light. The shade works for me however was probably a touch too warm – nothing a little bit of concealer can’t fix though right? $79 is quite steep for a foundation since I love L’oreal’s $15 Infallible foundation. However when I used it, the price point made sense (we’ll get into that later). The packaging is in a nice, luxurious frosted glass bottle with the Marc Jacobs black round lid. Not so sure what happened to my particular bottle though, because when I opened it, there was no pump! Instead, it was a round applicator that looks like a dropper. However the dropper didn’t have the squeezey part like Becca Aqua Luminous? A little confused by this. So I was extremely disappointed with the packaging. Application One of the things that this foundation claims to do is provide high coverage with minimal amount. When I try out a new foundation or beauty product, I always try to use as directed. So I dotted the foundation onto my skin, the forehead, cheeks…

Palette Review: Urban Decay Naked Heat

The 5th instalment to Urban Decay’s Naked collection is Naked Heat, a much anticipated palette that was released 28/06 (Australia) in Mecca stores. Like any beauty fanatic, I was excited and was 100% sure I’d purchase it – considering I didn’t buy the Smoky palette or Naked 2 knowing I wouldn’t obsess over those shades. However as soon as I saw Naked Heat, every single colour caught my eye. I’m a sucker for warm shades all year round. Packaging & Price I jumped onto Mecca on the release date and purchase Naked Heat for a whopping $83AUD. Yes, makeup is extremely expensive in Australia and we are reminded of that every day. I feel I would have been a lot happier buying the palette for $65, I’m not so sure why it costs so freaking much considering Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette features 18 shades at $70. Anyways, rant aside. If you didn’t know already, Urban Decay is hit and miss with their Naked palette packaging. Naked had the velvety brown exterior which was sleek and felt compact, Naked 2 is a metal tin that closed well, Naked 3 was also a metal tin however the closing sometimes popped open, Naked Smoky was a hard plastic case with a magnetic closure. Naked Heat is a hard plastic that feels luxurious but not too heavy – I was impressed with this one. The packaging really screamed sexy, seductive and steamy which aligned really well with the name. Colours & Swatches Naked Heat features 12 shades with a mix of shimmers and mattes and all with a warm undertone. The palette has gorgeous oranges that are perfect for a day look and smoky purple shades that are great to glam up at nighttime. These shades were probably not as creamy and buttery as I thought it would be however each colour is beautifully pigmented. The 12 shades from left to right: Ounce: a soft light beige with subtle shimmer Chaser: a light peachy brown shade with a matte finish Sauced: an orangey-brown shade with a matte finish Low Blow: a warm medium brown shade with a matte finish – great transition shade Lumbre: a pearl orangey-pink shade with a sheen finish He Devil: a warm terracotta shade with a matte finish Dirty Talk: a copper-brown shade with a slight sheen finish Scorched: a dark metallic reddish-brown shade Cayenne: a warm reddish-brown with a matte…

How to Start Your Own Beauty Blog

Disclaimer: This post may contain affiliate links for which I receive commission at no extra cost to you. This allows me to continue my blogging passion as a freelance writer. I’ve written a lot about beauty and lifestyle on my blog however I’ve never really gotten around to writing about blogging itself. I know that there are so many people wanting to begin their own blog but don’t know where to start – just like me. I wanted to put together an extremely simple guide on starting your own beauty blog without confusing you with technical jargon. I’m going to do my best to keep it extremely simple and show you how to start your own beauty blog. Beauty By Vee was not my first blog, it’s actually the only blog that I have kept alive amongst 5 others that failed miserably. The reason they failed is because I didn’t write about topics that excited me. I started one blog that ran on the idea of interviewing other bloggers and influencers however as interesting as it sounded, it wasn’t enough to keep the spark in me going. When I unveiled my passion for beauty and obsession for makeup, I decided to create Beauty By Vee, which was initially supposed to be a business website. I then realised that I love writing about beauty so much I wanted to do it exclusively. So that’s how Beauty By Vee came to be, but how did I go about the name, logo and design? Choosing your platform The first step is probably the hardest decision to make, however there’s not wrong answer. A platform is what will support your website. For example, I use WordPress – it’s an extremely popular platform that offers hundreds of services that will help enhance your website. Other platforms include Blogger, Squarespace and Wix. These are all great platforms and the decision on which to choose really depends on how familiar you are with each platform. If you are unfamiliar with them all, it’s a good idea to sign up to all of them and have a play around with their dashboard and services. Figure out which service they offer is the one for you. If you’re wanting to add a shopping cart, make sure your platform supports e-commerce. This step is all about trial and error and may take some time, but when you figure out how to…
