Emily Crawford, writer of stunning blog ‘Why Hello Beauty’ has graced my blog with her girl boss presence! Why Hello Beauty lies in the top 3 blogs that Beauty By Vee aspires to be – it includes kick ass interviews with some extremely influential entrepreneurs and top notch beauty tips and reviews. Definitely one of my favourite go-to blogs and Instagram accounts!
First of all, I have always been a huge fan of your blog – it is everything a beauty lover wants to read and more! Tell us about your blogging story. How it began and how it’s progressed?
Thank you! It began about 4 or so years ago, when I realised I could begin to indulge in my love for all things beauty and make connections within the beauty industry whilst still working full time in administration. Over the years, it has become more than a hobby and I’ve upped my game with all things bloggin’ related – think website themes, logos, flatlays, blog content and the like – it’s almost a part time job!
From following you on social media, I know that you’re living the married life! How is juggling work, a hubby and your social life?
90% of the times it’s all fun and games, 10% it’s tough! I work 40 hours a week at a desk job, try to spend about 6-10 hours a week on writing blog posts/creating flatlays/researching new content etc, but I find my inspiration comes at odd times of the day or night – so I’m always making notes to get back to later on! I also squeeze in catching up with friends/family, walking the pup, cuddles with the kitty cat and date nights with my husband, So life can get pretty crazy but it’s what I want to do!
If you could only choose 1 beauty product to use for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Gosh, I could never choose….. Hmmm maybe a MOR Modern Apocathery soap actually, I love indulging in expensive soap as it’s so lush! Or maybe a Lanolips lapbalm? Or a hairbrush as I can’t stand knotty hair…. Nup it’s too hard – can’t I just have everything!?
If you could sum Why Hello Beauty up in 3 words, what would they be?
Fresh, Girly and Inspirational.
Do you have any tips for girls who love beauty and want to start a blog similar to yours?
Go for it! What’s the worst that can happen – you write content that you enjoy, you take photos of products you love and people enjoy what you do? The sky is the limit girl!
How do you research for your blogging content?
Instagram is a huge part of finding content and inspirational women to interview. I also keep an eye on websites like ELLE and the like to see what’s hot and fresh right now!
How do you go about posting content? What are the steps you take? E.g. Research, draft, take photos etc.
It’s a process! I have an idea, begin to draft up a post, take some images/flatlay for the blog post and social, ensure I’m happy with the post and then I begin to promote on social media. This includes Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest, and sometimes I might use different images to publicise more than once. Using social media is a such a mindfield – there’s so many options now! I use Snapchat occasionally but I always forget to snap where I’m going or what I’m doing til it’s over hahah!
What is your skin care routine before you go to bed at night?
I remove makeup with Loreal makeup remover wipes, cleanse with Skinstitut’s Gentle Cleanser and every second night I scrub with Frank Body Scrub. I tone with Bioderma’s Toning Lotion and I mix up with night cream often, but right now I’m using Eau Thermale Avène Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Rich Cream, with Philosophy’s eye cream. I care for my lips of an evening with Frank’s lip balm, which tastes like coffee and feels great!
How do you motivate yourself to continue writing and blogging for your readers?
As I said, I find inspiration hits me at weird times and some times I can go for a week with no grand ideas, but I want my content to be quality so I don’t push myself to create content if I’m not feeling anything. If I’m feeling lazy, I’ll just post on Instagram and use FB to promote older popular blog posts but I find a lot of inspiration from magazines and other bloggers so it’s never very hard to brainstorm new ideas if I’m up for it!
